Far West Inspirography: Heavenly Sword & Dragon Slaying Saber

Listed in the FAR WEST Adventure Game core rulebook’s Inspirography entry, the 2019 adaptation of Jin Yong’s novel HEAVENLY SWORD & DRAGON SLAYING SABER is one of the best wuxia series put to video. For english-language viewers, the series is currently available subtitled on Amazon Prime.

The 50-episode season adapts the famous novel, originally published in newspapers from 1961 to 1963. The story has been revised twice; once in 1979 and the second in 2005. This version adapts the third edition of the novel, which changed the ending slightly. It tells the tale of the struggle to possess the two legendary weapons of the title, which will grant the wielder supremacy of the wulin (the martial arts world). The story, featuring various kung fu clans battling for possession of the weapons and rulership over all of the other clans, was a major inspiration behind FAR WEST’s system of Clans.
